Four Corners Builders Association
Offers Lead Based Safety Training

New Lead Based Paint Regulations Take Effect April 1, 2010

The rule requires contractors to adopt certain safety measures while performing general renovation work that disturbs lead-based paint in target housing and child-occupied facilities constructed before 1978. The rule will fully take effect on April 22, 2010, and renovators will be required to apply for certification from the EPA and to adopt specific work practices designed to prevent lead contamination.

It is important for all contractors and firms performing renovation work to be familiar with the provisions of the regulation, and to ensure that they fully comply with the EPA’s requirements.

The FCBA (Four Corners Builders Association) is offering this certification for our community to help this area meet the mandated EPA regulations.

The course will be held at Koko's Conference Center in Cortez (this is a change from the original post) and will run from 7:45AM to 5:30 PM on Friday, February 26th 2010. The cost is free for the First 12 Four Corners Builders Association members who sign up and thereafter it is $100 for all other members. FCBA Members who wish to sign up for this course should call 565-1771 to register.

For non-FCBA-members it is $225. Non-members can register for the course by visiting the Safe Objectives Web site at http://www.safeobjectives.com/forms/index.cfm?id=96615.

The course includes a manual, certification card, snacks and lunch.

Remember, this certification will be required by the EPA by April 1, 2010. The FCBA is providing this as an affordable certification. If this course is not taken now, the people who it affects will have to be certified at a later time and will probably have to travel to larger cities. This will require a longer time away from work and expense that is unnecessary. So please, let all people you know this may affect know about this.

Safe Objectives Inc. instructors are offering the Four Corners Builders Association their expert knowledge and training of lead in addition to a combined total of over 18 years experience in the construction industry. They were one of the first training providers accredited by the EPA to be able to offer EPA/HUD approved Renovation, Repair and Painting Courses nationally.
