Battle Rock Charter School repairs donated by FCBA Members |
Battle Rock Charter School gives builders a huge thank you
(excerpted from a letter that was published in the Cortez Journal)
"We would like to give a great big thank you the the Four Corners Builders Association for coming down
to Battle Rock Charter School to make some very necessary repairs here at the school. They drove down to McElmo
Canyon, some of them several times, donated most of the materials for the repairs, and donated their time. This
was a huge service to our school and community........ They went above and beyond the call of community service
and we greatly appreciate the time, effort, and energy they spent here."
Sincerely,
Battle Rock Charter School Board, staff and students |

The FCBA Offers Lead-Based Paint Certification |
On April 22, 2010 a new EPA rule went into effect that requires contractors to adopt certain safety measures while performing general renovation work that disturbs lead-based paint in target housing and child-occupied facilities constructed before 1978. Renovators were required to apply for certification from the EPA and to adopt specific work practices designed to prevent lead contamination.
On February 26, 2010 The Four Corners Builders Association offered this certification for our community to help this area meet the mandated EPA regulations. The first 12 FCBA members to sign up received free training and certification, and all other members were only charged $100 each. Non-members paid the full $225 fee.
The training and certification was provided by and certification was provided by Safe Objectives Inc. Their instructors offered the FCBA their expert knowledge and training of lead in addition to a combined total of over 18 years experience in the construction industry. They were one of the first training providers accredited by the EPA to be able to offer EPA/HUD approved Renovation, Repair and Painting Courses nationally.
The EPA regulation can be viewed at http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm. |

The 2008 Parade of Lights
|
The 2008 Cortez Parade of Lights was held Saturday night December 6th.
Members of the Four Corners Builders Association spent
several hours the night before as well as the morning of the
parade decorating the FCBA float in the McStone Aggregates
shop.
Pro Build/UBC generously loaned a shed for the float and
FCBA members were asked to provide signs to advertise
their businesses on the float.
Everyone involved had a great time! The FCBA will again
participate in the 2009 Parade of Lights. We encourage all
members to participate in 2009! |

The Ron Kotarski, Jr. Memorial Community Playground
A Community Triumph!
|
 |
|
The 15,000 square foot playground was built in five days by hundreds of volunteers including members of the FCBA. The FCBA was responsible for supplying, organizing, and the checking in and out of all the tools needed to build the playground. The FCBA also supplied a truck trailer to store and inventory the tools in for the five day project. This was a tremendous feat unto itself. Everyday our volunteers were the first to arrive, and the last to leave. The playground was completed on schedule and opened on Mother's Day. The playground was built in Dolores and is a wonderful community asset not only to Dolores, but to all of the surrounding areas. The idea was originated by Gina Kotarski and with design and organizational help from Leathers and Associates, has become a sensational reality. This project proves that a community that works together today, can build a brighter future for tomorrow. |

The Cortez Cultural Center receives a much needed upgrade!
|
The Cultural Center's Mission is to provide a forum for the community's
educational, cultural, artistic, and scientific interests.
They are the catalyst for cultural respect, continuity and
innovation.
The Center hosts arts, cultural heritage, scientific lectures and
performances throughout the year. The outdoor amphitheater
provides an intriguing and pleasant forum for the summer Indian
Dances and outdoor dramas.
The historic building was built in the beginning of the 20th
Century.
The Fire Marshall notified them that due to the age
and condition of
the exterior staircase, it would have to be
replaced. The Cultural
Center had a need and the Four Corners Builders
Association along
with the Building Class from the San Juan Vo Tech
School (now the Southwest Colorado Community College) gave them some much needed help by building a new and safer
staircase.
Four Corners Builders Association Members who helped were: Montezuma
Builders - Ed Dunn (in picture) and his employee Alex Thorkelson,
Aragorn Enterprises, LLC - Walt Stramel, Custom Carpentry and
Construction - John Stramel and his employees Jerry Tavra and Chris
Todacheeny, and Candelaria Construction - Jim Candelaria.
Students from the San Juan Vo Tech School were: Evelyn
Simmons, Fred Bancroft, Chris Curry, and Raylon Hodgins.
